In theory, leadership is great. The idea of inspiring and championing your team to do their best, kick all the goals and give an employee engagement score of 10/10 sounds appealing to most. You may even have a range of solid leadership skills, you are good at organising people and resources, plus you have a proven track record of performing in a team. But that doesn’t mean leadership is easy. Even with these skills, you may be wondering how you ended up working with people who seemingly don’t even like you. Or maybe you don’t like them…

Being a manager is hard. Leading people is difficult. Working effectively in teams can be problematic.

There are lots of challenges and problems to be solved. It is easy to waste weeks, months or years worrying about these situations without taking the necessary steps to fix the problem. Ruminating at 2am about that difficult conversation you keep putting off or starting the Sunday sads at 10am because the prospect of going to work on Monday feels blah. Whilst these behaviours are common, unless you make a change and take action to address the actual cause of these behaviours then nothing will change.

Friends are great for validating our frustrations, but there is only so much a friend can offer if what you need is to learn skills to tackle the problems playing out for you every day. Or worse still, receiving unhelpful advice only compounds feeling stressed.
